Review of All Together, Now!!!! From Dirty Linen Magazine!!!!!
Danny Kalb All Together, Now [self-produced] A guitar god in the pre-Jimi Hendrix, early 1960s, when he played on albums by Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, and Judy Collins and founded the influential Blues Project. Danny Kalb continues to show his instrumental mastery. Kalb's second album, All Together Now, following a nearly three decade absence from the studio, is a text-book of six-string wizardry. Performing mostly solo, Kalb rewrites folk, blues and jazz standards, Christmas tunes and originals -- including a heartfelt tribute to the late Dave Van Ronk -- with his highly proficient playing. This 9/11 Christmastime- Pain in my heart
The world is full of injustice, But Refuse to be injust.
The world is full of Haters, But Refuse to be one of them.
The World is full of Fools, But Refuse to deny what is learned along the
way.
In a world of Cold, Hard Laughter, I refuse to hide my Tears.

Bio and Info: Courtesy In-Media Publicity
I am an American of my generation, born during the titanic struggle against the darkness of Fascism, shaped in childhood by the atomic war possibility, and trying to make sense, ongoing, of the twilight struggle against the second darkness, Communism. And woken up to the holy struggle to blast open the remaining shut door of American life, legal segregation. This my generation did do. My personal symbolic baptism of fire, September 11th, shocked me into full human bonding with my fellow countrymen for now and for forever. I am an American of my generation, graying now, but, as ever with Americans past and present, a man of peace and love - and willing to defend it at all costs.

A Message from Danny on the passing of Andy Kulberg :
"Andy the flute which Soared, gleaming to the very heavens, is silenced now. Night time has pushed it's way into our lives without so much as a warning. Here I lie in my bed writing my thanks to you for putting up with my moodyness for challenging you to take a look at what seemed insistent to my soul and for never losing that Charlie Chaplinesque sadness you never really left behind in Buffalo.
But mainly I remember the wild joy of playing with you onstage. I remember the explosive, exquisite, subtle, lyrical beauty and power that was the Blues Project. Born in a time when all seemed possible and on the agenda; there were joyous, vibrating, musical colors for Technicolor moments. Truelly the Hebrew God L'Chaim was making love to the African Princess. Yes, that was the Blues Project. A wakeup call to the young New York of the 1960's; a laughing roller-coaster with the age-old message of the Black Blues all mixed in to make a new American Soundtrack.
Yes your bass playing was both sturdy yet explosive, the foundation of "up" tunes and the innovative pulse for sad Alberta and Caress Me Baby.
It was musical, our music, yes, but something more too: It went deep and unafraid to show the landscape of the wounded heart., which all of us in the band, in different ways, shared. And Rock and Roll Happiness; a little less poseur than most Blues-Rock bands.
What Fucking Fun!!!
What Wild Big-Time Screaming delight!!!!!
For myself, I am extremely happy we got so much of our stuff recorded live-
A moral lesson, almost, to other musicians, (especially young ones) about the relationship between risk-taking and the deepest integrity. No imitation here, just the bloodstream taking a left turn at Bleeker and McDougal streets. Same Blood, Same Body, Same Shout to the Sun!!!
Again Andy, I remember the Flute Thing, especially the Electric Flute Thing from Live at Town Hall. The Jazz Guitarist Jim Hall stopped me on the street in 1967 and told me the the playing on Electric Flute Thing defined the highest music being played at that moment. The Cutting Edge.
We who remain feel the loss of you, but we seem to faintly hear the sound of music through the sunlit forest trees. "
Dave Remembered
by Danny Kalb 2002
Yes, the first thing that struck me about Dave Van Ronk was the fierceness of his
shout-singing, surrounded by his exquisite, almost lush guitar style. This was an irresistible
combination for an awe-struck young guitarist who came to worship him.
As I listened more and played more, I encountered other white-black American
artists such as Elvis Presley and others outside the African-American tradition (such as Joni
Mitchell and Kurt Weill) who understood, as did Dave, the happy-sad, both-sides-now of life.
The strong, swirling personal and social declarations of independence of the Freedom Now
generation resonated throughout its music. Big change seemed to be a given; the only skeleton
key to the unanswerable question of what lay beyond the next hill, became a way of life for some
artists and other risk-takers.
Dave Van Ronk's sound was unafraid, funky and a joyous challenge in a way.
The challenge was, I think, to go for it all the way, and don't look back. Speaking personally I
loved Dave big-time. He personified in his artistic gift and his green rocky road journey, a way
to be, an example for others, with the real costs and the real triumphs of a life lived fully.
This was a man.
A heavy, heavy loss. The darkness has won one, terribly prematurely. But the
music and life of Dave Van Ronk ain't goin' nowhere. Even now I can almost hear him laughing
freely and deeply, unfortunately still smoking those damn cigarettes, even as we, his friends left
behind, weep and celebrate him at the same time.
Peace, beloved teacher

re: Paul Simon's song "America" and my generation:
Just as some of my generation had to go back to God through spirituality instead of organized religion, we also had to return to love of country by the rejection of those things that we thought were the negative essence of America in the 1960's.
And, in finding ourselves too, by a combination of rigorous self-criticism and hard-won self-esteem, we came to view as the mist of the 60's was rising, the shining form of the Statue of Liberty.
